![]() ![]() Soldiers don't have time to do 100 hours of Judo, so they were taught a few open hand strikes and kicks, a simple throw and some chokes. The idea obviously started with short self defense courses and military programs from WWI and WWII. Especially when they're half understood by guys with no martial arts background who want teh str33t l3th4l without having to spar or practice too much. Arts that focus on fewer and more brutal techniques, or do in theory. ![]() "Combatives" can mean any method or group of methods of combat, but here I'll use it to mean abbreviated martial arts. It was a subject brought back by this recent thread about Dave Walmsley's training videos (which are pretty good) going on YouTube. I'm starting this thread in response to a horrible plague that has swept the internet since the year 2000 and shows no sign of stopping:Combatives shills. ![]()
